For example, body-worn cameras can provide a record of police interventions, which can be used to evaluate the use of force and hold officers accountable. At least, it should be noted that preventing excessive use of force requires a sustained and collective effort from police departments, policymakers and community members. Police leaders need to utterly understand the underlying cultural mech anisms that tend to justify excessive or unnecessary use of force by officers to be able to identify risk situations when and where unlawful use of force may occur. In addition, they must enforce strong, precise and perennial strategies that have to be constant ly updated and adapted in order to ensure their effectiveness.

Ethan Dennis , EMT grew up in Chicago and is currently a student at Duke University studying biomedical engineering. In addition to his rigorous coursework at Duke, Ethan is a committed Division One athlete fenc ing six days per week as well as serving as a member of the Duke University Emergency Medical Services Unit. Ethan graduated from Frances W. Parker School in Chicago and completed his EMT training through the Il linois State Police EMS System. He is currently a lawyer specialized in criminal law, security and defense policy and human rights. He collaborates with international organizations as advi sor and speaker providing training in the above-mentioned fields.

Here are some potential strategies or ideas that could help in implementing and enforcing strategies aimed at preventing the use of excessive force by police officers: 1. Awareness campaigns: designed to educate and increase awareness of this issue and remember fundamental values and policies and guidelines on the use of force. 2. Policies: Police departments should have clear policies and guidelines on the use of force that are regularly reviewed and updated. These policies should emphasize the importance of de-escalation, and the core values concerning the use of force: necessity, and proportionality. 3. Accountability: Police officers who engage in excessive use of force should be held accountable for their actions through appropriate disciplinary measures and legal consequences. This includes prosecuting officers who violate the law and removing those who engage into excessive and unjustified use of force. 4. Training: Police officers should receive comprehensive training on the appropriate use of force, including de-escalation techniques, communication skills, and non-lethal alternatives to deadly force. The training should be ongoing and incorporate feedback and evaluation to ensure that officers are consistently practicing these skills. This requires a strong and adapted planification and coordination between involved departments such as
